UPSC Civil Services Examination 2016:         Results for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Exam conducted in 2016 were declared on 31-05-2017 (Wednesday). Candidates can access their result list on the official website.

KR Nandini from Karnataka has topped the prestigious Civil Service Examination which were conducted by UPSC in December 2016.

KR Nandini, presently is an officer of the Indian Revenue Service at present undergoing training at the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics in Faridabad.

KR Nandini who belongs to the OBC category topped the exam in her 4th attempt. She told PTI - "It is like a dream come true. I always wanted to be an IAS Officer".

Earlier she had cracked 2014 Civil Services Exam and was allotted the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise).

However, Nandini had kept her eyes on Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and reappeared for the exam in 2015 but couldn’t clear the preliminary exams due to her illness.

She is holding a Degree in Civil Engineering from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru and her optional subject was Kannada Literature.

In UPSC 2016 exams the second position was secured by Anmol Sher Singh Bedi an Engineering Graduate in Computer Science from BITS, Pilani and the 3rd position was secured by G Ronanki.
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi secured the second position followed by Gopalkrishna Ronanki, Saumya Pandey, Abhilash Mishra and Kothamasu Dinesh Kumar.

Top 25 candidates comprise of 18 men and 07 women from various backgrounds like Engineering, Science, Economics and Forestry Graduating from Institutions like IITs, NIT, BITS Pilani, Delhi University, Anna University etc.

The optional subjects of the top 25 candidates in the Examination ranged from Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Anthropology, Economics, Electronic Engineering, Geography, History, Mathematics, Political Science and International Relations, Public Administration, Psychology and Kannada and Telugu Literature.

According to the UPSC Official results which was uploaded on 31-05-2017 (Wednesday) evening, total 1099 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various Central Government Services by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

As many as 180 successful candidates will be appointed in the IAS, 45 in the IFS, 150 in the IPS and 834 in other central group A and B services.

The result includes total 44 physically handicapped (PH) candidates (22 Orthopedically handicapped; 07 visually challenged and 15 hearing impaired). Total 220 other candidates are in the waiting list.

UPSC Schedule:      Civil Services Examination is conducted by the UPSC annually in 3 stages —as 1st Preliminary, 2nd Main and 3rd Interview to select candidates for the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

This Civil Services Preliminary Examination, 2016 was conducted on 07-08-2016. As many as 1135943 candidates had applied for this examination out of which 459659 candidates actually appeared in Pre exam.

Out of a total of 15452 candidates qualified for the Mains Examination which was held in December 2016. Out of these 2961 candidates were qualified for the Personality test or Interview which was conducted in March/May 2017.

Total of 1209 vacancies were notified by the Government which were to be filled through the Civil Services Examination 2016.

As per final results out of 1,099 candidates — 

A -Men:  846.

B -Women:   253.

1. IAS:  180.

2. IPS:  150.

3. IFS:  45.

4. Group A and B Central Services:   834.

Category Wise total passed –

1. General Category (Gen):              500 candidates.

2. Other Backward Class (OBC):     347 candidates.

3. Scheduled Caste (SC):                 163 candidates.

4. Scheduled Tribe (ST):                  89 candidates.

Out of the top 25 successful candidates, 18 are men and 07 women.

In a report in The Times of India, Nandini said that while her preparation was not up to the mark in the initial attempt, her efforts to get a rank that would upgrade her to IAS came a cropper when she was diagnosed with dengue ahead of her 3rd attempt in the preliminary exams.

A year later, Nandini again sat for the Civil Services Examination in 2016 despite undergoing training for IRS and secured the 1st position.

A daughter of Government School Teacher -

The daughter of a government school teacher, Nandini had chosen Kannada literature as her optional subject. She belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.

Apart from studies, Nandini spends her time reading literature and playing volleyball. After becoming an IAS Officer, Nandini wants to work in the areas of women empowerment and education.

UPSC Result 2017:     Total 14 qualify from Jammu and Kashmir, Bilal Bhat gets all-India 10th rank.

Out of 1099 vacancies 14 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir have made the merit list of the recently announced Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Exam conducted in 2016. This is a rare bit of uplifting news coming out of the terror-hit state which has been troubled by multiple insurgency attempts. The state has also seen clashes between the Armed Forces and the Citizens as stone pelting has become rampant.

Earlier the topper from J & K is Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat who scored the 10th position. He is currently an Indian Forest Officer based in Lucknow. He told PTI that “Words can hardly describe my feelings. I feel on top of the world today”. He is a veterinarian by training and could not qualify for Civil Service Exams in his 1st 3 attempts, reported . This time he made the top 10 and hopes to get his state cadre. He had earlier cracked the Kashmir Administrative Services.

Others candidate from Jammu and Kashmir who qualified the exam include Zafar Iqbal (rank 39), Syed Fakhrudin Hamid (rank 86), Bisma Qazi (rank 115), Suhail Qasim Mir (rank 125), Saqib Yousuf (rank 472), Inabat Khaliq (rank 604), Faisal Javaid (rank 610), and Amir Bashir (rank 1087) according to Rising Kashmir.

Bisma Qazi, 25, from Srinagar told that she was heartbroken when she could not qualify for MBBS. “It was a painful experience, but I decided that I will come back with much bigger goal. Today I have done it,” she said. She is an electronics and communications engineer and this was her 2nd attempt. She hopes to get into the IAS but is comfortable with IPS as well.

A 26-year-old Suhail Qasim Mir from the Anantnag district secured the 125th rank and credited his father for his success, according to Rising Kashmir. His father is a Police Officer and the decorum associated with a Government Officer’s job always fascinated him. He was pursuing a Ph. D from Jamia Millia Islamia after completing his MBA from the same University.

Kurukshetra Professor’s daughter gets 12th Rank in UPSC exam –

A Girl Tejasvi Rana of Kurukshetra (Haryana) has secured 12th rank in the Civil Services Examination, results of which were declared by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on 31-05-2017.

Tejasvi said “My parents gave me all support to achieve my target and my success is the result of their efforts,” whose father Dr. Kuldeep Rana is Professor of Economics in Kurukshetra University and mother Dr Sarita Rana is Associate Professor of Commerce in University College at Kurukshetra.
Talking to News, Tejasvi said, “For the past one year when I was preparing for the exam, my parents provided me all help I required.”

She said that she did not take any coaching for the exam and prepared by herself.

Tejasvi, a BS (Economics) from IIT Kanpur, said, “I wanted to serve the Country as an IAS Officer. It’s a dream come true for me”.

Regarding her preparations, she said, “I worked hard and spent 8 to 10 hours every day for the preparations. But I was not expecting to get 12th position”.

She said about her future plans, “In the coming days, India will be going far ahead in development. Administration and Officers play a big role in this and I will give my best to see my country progress.”

Tejsavi’s father Kuldeep Rana said, “I am very happy with the achievement of my daughter and I am sure that one day she will prove to be an asset for the country”.

Tejsavi did her schooling from DAV School, Kurukshetra, and in Class 10 she topped the district with 97% marks.

DOCTOR IMPROVES RANK -

Meanwhile, Dr Prasant Jilova of Kurukshetra has secured 108th rank in the UPSC exam. His father Dr. Chand Jilova told that Prashant has completed his MBBS and is under training. He appeared in the exam last year also and got 812nd rank.

Lucknow girl bags AIR 51 in UPSC, fulfils father’s dreams -

LUCKNOW:     Lucknow girl Ila Tripathi cracked the Civil Services 2016 by securing AIR 51. "I was sitting casually in my drawing room where my phone was put on charging. Half an later when I got to the phone, there were seven missed calls from a IAS friend who is undergoing training in Mussorie. I understood that UPSC results were out," said an elated Ila.

This was Ila's second attempt. In 2015, she couldn't sail through the prelims. "I was working then and just appeared for UPSC to understand the pattern," said Ila who in Janauary, 2016 quit her job to focus on civil services. Ila was working as a financial consultant in a Delhi-based firm with its office in Lucknow. Ila chose to work in Lucknow. While candidates aspiring for civil services make their way to Delhi, Ila decided to remain in Lucknow for her preparations.

"I did join a coaching institute but soon realized that self-studies will do better to me. Post my interview, I was confident of featuring in the list but wasn't sure about the rank. I am glad that I made through IAS, which was my choice," Ila said.
