Vacancies: Vacancies will be determined in due course and will be uploaded on the website of the commission after finalization of vacancies.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION: A passed of 12th or equivalent/12th Standard/10+2 (Matriculation with HSC) or equivalent from any recognized Board or University.
AGE LIMIT: 18 to 27/30 years as on 01-01-2019 for SSC Recruitment 2018 for Stenographer Grade C & D Posts.
1. Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years as on 01-01-2019 (i.e. candidates born on or after 2nd January, 1989 and born before or on 1st January 2001).
2. Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18-27 years as on 01-01-2019 (i.e. candidates born on or after 2nd January 1992 and born before or on 01-01-2001).
AGE RELAXATION: Relaxation in age is applicable for reserved category candidates as per Govt. Rules.
PAY SCALE: Rs.9300-34800/-+Grade Pay Rs.4600/- for Group - C and Rs.5200-20200/-+ Grade Pay Rs.2400/- for Group – D.

REQUIRED APPLICATION FEE: A non- refundable Application Fee of Rs. 100/- by General & OBC candidates to be paid through SBI Challan/ SBI Net Banking or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit card up to 21-11-2018 and through Challan 26-11-2018.
The Fee is exempted for all Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PWD and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation, as per Government orders.
POST RESERVATION: Reservation is applicable for Scheduled caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Ex-Servicemen (ESM) candidates.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in Written Examination (Computer Based), Skill Test, Document verification and Merit List. The exam will be conducted in two stages. Stage 1 will be an online examination consisting of objective type multiple choice questions and will be conducted from 1st February 2019 to 6th February 2019. Stage 2 will be a Skill Test. We will notify the exam date for Skill Test as soon as SSC release the official notification.
Candidates will be shortlisted for the skill test on the basis of their performance in the Computer Based Examination. Candidates who qualify in the skill test will be recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of total marks in the Computer Based Examination.
SSC STENOGRAPHER EXAM PATTERN 2018: Multiple Choice Examination –
Question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except for Part-III.
There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the question.
PAPER- 1- TOTAL DURATION OF EXAM: 120 minutes.
1. Part I - Subject: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 questions) - Max Marks – 50.
2. Part II - Subject: General Awareness (50 questions) - Max Marks – 50.
3. Part III- Subject: English Language and Comprehension (100 questions) - Max Marks – 100.
PAPER-2- Skill Test: Candidates will be shortlisted for the skill test on the basis of their performance in the Computer Based Examination. Candidates who qualify in the skill test will be recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of total marks in the Computer Based Examination. The skill test will be held at the Commission’s Regional/ Sub Regional Offices or at other Centre(s) as may be decided by the Commission.
Detailed instructions regarding Skill Test will be sent by the concerned Regional/ Sub Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.
Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix category-wise qualifying standard in the Skill Test for each post.
In this test, candidates will be given a dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi –
A- Stenographer Grade C:
1. Speed – 100 words per minute.
2. Time to transcribe the dictation - 50 min (English) & 65 min (Hindi).
B- Stenographer Grade D:
1. Speed – 80 words per minute.
2. Time to transcribe the dictation - 40 min (English) and 55 min (Hindi).
Document Verification (DV): All the candidates qualified for Document Verification are required to come for Document Verification. Those who fail to do so will not be considered for any post at the time of final selection. Candidates will have to submit copies of various documents like Matriculation Certificate, educational qualification, caste certificate, relevant document, if any relaxation is taken, etc. Candidates will be required to produce all documents in original for verification at the time of document verification. Information about the required documents will be provided while calling candidates for DV. Detailed options for various posts and Departments will be taken from candidates either online or at the time of document verification.
Final Selection: Allocation of candidates will be made to User Departments depending upon their merit position and the option exercised by them. Candidates, who are appointed on the basis of this examination, shall be on probation for a period of two years and during the period of probation, the candidates would be required to undergo such training or pass such examinations as prescribed by the Controlling Authority. On successful completion of the period of probation, the candidates shall, if considered fit for permanent appointment, be confirmed to their post by the Controlling Authority.
SSC STENOGRAPHER GRADE C & D EXAM SYLLABUS 2018 -
I - General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate's abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.
II - General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate's general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.
III - English Language & Comprehension: In addition to the testing of candidate’s understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. his/her writing ability, would also be tested.
