Akanksha Tiwari of Gonda clinched the first position in Provincial Civil Services (Judicial) Exam-2018, the results of which were declared by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission on 20-07-2019.
Harihar Gupta of Nainital stood second while Azamgarh lad Prateek Tripathi came third position. With it, the state has got 610 new Civil Judges in district courts.
Talking to TOI, Akansha credited her success to her parents. “I was not expecting to top the exam... motivation from my parents helped,” she said.
Second ranker Harihar Gupta is posted as Assistant District Attorney in Faridabad, Haryana. He said his father is a retired High Court Judge and had secured 4th rank in Higher Judicial Service. “He wanted me to bag a good rank in the exam. I am happy that I fulfilled his dream.”
He also thanked his mother Sushila Gupta for the achievement.
3rd ranker Prateek Tripathi is working as Judicial Magistrate in Patna, after getting selected through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) in 2018. “I wanted to be back in my home state,” said Prateek, who gave credit of his success to his father, a Judicial Magistrate posted in Bareilly and his homemaker mother.
A number of candidates from the city have also qualified. Nikita Sengar, who did her LLB (Hons) from a private law college in Pune, bagged 109th rank. “I believed in self-made short notes and in-depth study of the bare act. I would be the first Judge in my family,” she said.
Sonam Sharma of Lucknow secured 338th rank. She did law from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow.
Utkarsh Singh, who completed LLM from LU, bagged 542th rank. He said self-study and guidance from university professors helped him. “I didn’t join any coaching after LLB (Hons) in 2016. I plan to support the poor and those who can’t afford to fight the legal battle,” he said.
Former LU student, Rajat Shukla, who completed LLB in 2016, also cleared the exam. Rajat said he made sure to develop an understanding of every law and Act.
The exam is officially called UP Judicial Service Civil Judges (Junior Division) Exam. It is held in 3 stages. The prelims was conducted on December 16, mains from January 30 to February 1 and interviews from June 21 to July 17.
UPPSC Secretary Jagdish said provisionally selected candidates should submit their documents or else their selection would be cancelled.
