The Constitution of India containing 448 articles in 22 parts, 12 schedules and 118 amendments


1.   Ashok Stambh, the National Emblem of India has four Asiatic lions standing back to back. It symbolizing power, courage, pride, and confidence. Below the four lions, an elephant (of the east), a horse (of the south), a bull (of the west), and a lion (of the north). The animals are separated by wheels known as Dharma Chakras. The four animals were originally supposed to represent the four stages in the life of the Buddha.

2.   Neelam Sanjiva Reddy is the only person to be elected to the office of the President of India unopposed.

3.   At 64 year, 67 days, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy became the youngest ever person to be elected as President of India.

11.       In the National Flag of India, the saffron color represents courage and sacrifice; white color represents truth, peace and purity; green color represents prosperity and the Ashok Chakra represents the Laws of Dharma.

12.       Everest is named after Sir George Everest, a Welsh surveyor, geographer and Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843.

Friends, Indian constitution are the largest written constitution in the world. It is the supreme law of India. The Indian Constitution has twelve schedules. Indian Constitution originally had eight schedules. Four more schedules were added later at different times by different amendments. Here are the some details of the schedules mention in our constitution.

Seventh Schedule
Gives allocation of powers and functions between Union & States. It contains 3 lists: 1. Union List (For central Govt) 97 Subjects. 2. States List (Powers of State Govt) 66 subjects 3. Concurrent List (Both Union & States) 47 subjects.
Eighth Schedule
List of 22 languages of India recognized by Constitution (Assamese , Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Manipuri, Malayalam, Konkani, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Santhali, Bodo, Maithili, Dogri)
Ninth Schedule
Added by 1st amendment in 1951, contains acts & orders related to land tenure, land tax, railways, industries.
Tenth Schedule
Added by 52nd amendment in 1985, Provisions as to disqualification on ground of defection.
Eleventh Schedule
By 73rd amendment in 1992, contains Powers, authority and responsibilities of Panchayats.
Twelfth Schedule
By 74thamendment in 1992, contains Powers, authority and responsibilities of Municipalities, etc.
